UAE Says It Thwarted AI-Backed Cyberattacks Targeting “Key National Sectors”
The UAE Cybersecurity Council says the country has foiled a wave of organised cyberattacks aimed at its digital infrastructure and “key national sectors”, signalling what officials described as a qualitative shift in hostile tactics
According to a report carried by the UAE’s state news agency, the attempted intrusions combined network infiltration, ransomware deployment and coordinated phishing campaigns against national platforms. The report said the offensive tooling leveraged advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, underscoring how automation is lowering the barrier for more complex attack chains.
While no perpetrators were identified, the incident description aligns with a broader regional pattern in which identity compromise and initial-access vectors such as phishing are used to pivot into high-impact disruption. For operators in government, critical infrastructure and regulated industries, the disclosure reinforces the need for tighter email security, stronger identity controls, segmentation and tested recovery playbooks, alongside continuous monitoring for anomalous access behaviour.
