Arab Parliament Calls for Partnership Across Governments, Academia and Private Sector in Building Safe AI Platforms

During a pivotal session of the Arab Parliament held yesterday in Cairo, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, the President of the Arab Parliament, delivered an inspiring keynote address. He emphasized the urgent need for member countries to localize artificial intelligence (AI) within the Arab region. Al Yamahi called for a concerted effort to draft a strategic and financial framework aimed at assembling human resources to ensure the region keeps pace with global advancements.
The Arab Dialogue Circle on AI
This address was part of the opening of the Arab Dialogue Circle on “Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges.” The event, hosted at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, was organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. It was held in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Arab League and attended by distinguished diplomatic, academic, and specialized figures.
Building a Sustainable AI System
In his speech, Al Yamahi highlighted the importance of creating an innovative and sustainable Arab AI system. He stressed the need for strong partnerships between governments, academic institutions, and the private sector. Additionally, he underscored the need for a robust legal and legislative framework that balances technological creativity with ethical responsibility.
