Dubai Customs Installs Revolutionary Scanning System
Dubai Customs Implements Revolutionary System to Enhance Vehicle Inspection at Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Centre.
Dubai Customs has introduced a groundbreaking and one-of-a-kind advanced system at the Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Centre, revolutionizing the inspection process for heavy and light vehicles, equipment, and yachts through the use of X-ray scanning technology.
This cutting-edge system enables the centre to significantly increase its inspection operations, expediting procedures and facilitating seamless business and trade. The implementation of this system further solidifies Jebel Ali Port’s position as the largest port in the Middle East and one of the most crucial globally.
Specifically tailored to meet Dubai Customs’ unique requirements, the system has the capability to scan vehicles and heavy equipment with maximum dimensions of 5.9 meters by 5.5 meters. It operates in two modes: stationary (gantry) mode, where the vehicle remains still during scanning, and mobile mode, where the vehicle passes through the device while being scanned. Notably, the system can detect and identify radioactive materials, locate them accurately, identify customs declarations using container numbers, and perform remote image analysis.
This development aligns with Dubai’s economic agenda, known as D33, which aims to keep pace with the city’s rapid economic growth. Ahmed Mahboub Musabih, Director-General of Dubai Customs and CEO of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, emphasized that Dubai Customs plays an active role in Dubai’s journey to become one of the world’s fastest-growing cities and one of the top three economic hubs. This strategic move supports the economic agenda set forth by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Musabih further highlighted the significance of this advanced system, exclusively designed for Dubai Customs, in enhancing business operations. By increasing capacity and expediting the inspection of heavy and light vehicles, as well as large equipment utilized across various construction and industrial sectors, this innovative solution bolsters the efficiency and effectiveness of Dubai’s customs procedures.
