Motorola Completes $1.5B D-Fend Acquisition
Motorola Solutions has completed its $1.5 billion acquisition of counter-drone specialist D-Fend Solutions, adding RF cyber-takeover technology to its public safety and critical infrastructure portfolio.
The acquisition gives Motorola Solutions access to D-Fend’s counter-unmanned aerial system technology, which is designed to detect, identify and take control of unauthorized drones.
D-Fend uses RF cyber technology to take control of rogue drones without jamming nearby communications.
Unlike systems that rely on jamming or kinetic interception, D-Fend’s technology uses radio-frequency cyber takeover to assume control of a rogue drone and direct it to a designated landing area. The approach is designed to neutralize threats without disrupting nearby communications or authorized drone operations.
Expanding counter-drone protection
D-Fend’s systems are already deployed across airports, critical infrastructure sites, stadiums, military bases and borders in more than 30 countries.
Motorola Solutions plans to integrate the technology into its wider public safety ecosystem, combining airspace protection with situational awareness and response capabilities.
Zohar Halachmi will remain CEO of D-Fend Solutions and will also lead Motorola Solutions’ counter-drone platform as senior vice president, Counter-Drone Solutions.
The acquisition strengthens Motorola Solutions’ position in the growing counter-drone market as governments and infrastructure operators increase efforts to protect sensitive sites from unauthorized unmanned aircraft.
