UAE Recognized as Global Leader in Cybersecurity Efforts

The UAE has been named a global leader in cybersecurity in the recently released Global Cybersecurity Index 2024. The report, compiled by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency focused on information and communication technology, ranked the UAE in the highest “Tier One” category, recognizing countries considered role models in the field.

The UAE is among 46 nations to achieve this top ranking, alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. The report assessed 194 countries across five key cybersecurity pillars: legal, technical, organizational, capacity development, and cooperation. Tier one countries were acknowledged for their strong commitment to advancing in all these areas.

While the report highlighted improvements in cybersecurity efforts worldwide, it also emphasized the need for stronger actions to address evolving cyber threats. It identified key concerns such as ransomware attacks targeting government services, cyber breaches affecting industries, costly power outages, and privacy violations as major challenges in the current digital landscape.
