Motorola to Acquire AI Communications Software Business

Motorola Solutions has agreed to acquire Theatro Labs, Inc., a Texas-based company specializing in AI and voice-powered communication software for frontline workers.

Theatro’s software-as-a-service platform enhances productivity and safety by providing real-time information through a wearable device. Workers can use its AI voice assistant to assist customers, check inventory, and communicate with team members, streamlining workflows and boosting product knowledge.

The technology also prioritizes safety, allowing employees to discreetly alert management in unsafe situations and receive guided protocols via the wearable device. Integration with video security systems further enhances theft prevention and safety measures by proactively alerting staff to potential risks.

“Theatro prioritizes safety and efficiency, which are key for all frontline workers,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, CTO of Motorola Solutions. “This acquisition reflects our commitment to leveraging AI to protect workers and improve operations.”

Serving prominent U.S. retailers, Theatro will integrate with Motorola’s existing technologies, including body cameras and radios, to expand services across sectors like healthcare and education.

Chris Todd, CEO of Theatro, expressed excitement about joining Motorola, highlighting their shared goal of empowering frontline workers. Pending regulatory approvals, the acquisition is expected to close in early 2025.
