A Fast-Track Path to Mobile Access and Security

Quick, convenient mobile access may already have been considered, but the process of upgrading may have seemed like a hassle.

Transitioning from physical access cards to mobile hasn’t always been turnkey. Organizations needed to update the keys on their readers first, a process that can be somewhat time-consuming and costly. In addition, some organizations are resistant to change or unsure of what the user experience will look like. Others may be concerned that mobile is too complex or that their infrastructure isn’t ready for an upgrade.

HID wants to make it easy to go mobile. That’s why the company took a different approach that removes the time and cost of upgrading. It is now leveraging powerful Seos technology in a new way with its HID Mobile Access App, and it works seamlessly with existing setups.

Mobile Access with Readers’ Existing Keys

Organizations with HID mobile-ready readers—Signo or iCLASS SE—installed can now use their existing Seos keys to upgrade to mobile access. There is no longer any need to update readers with new keys, meaning the devices are ready to go. This allows organizations to provide building occupants with mobile access without the previous barriers associated with replacing or upgrading readers.

Moreover, these existing keys can make buildings more secure while simplifying the path to mobile access. They can fast-track the transition by allowing organizations with HID mobile-ready readers to activate mobile access using the existing Seos keys and start using enhanced access functionality without replacing or upgrading the readers.

The existing keys also provide a path toward future-ready devices and buildings. After converting to digital credentials, organizations can progressively update their readers to the latest firmware and site-specific security keys at their own pace and within their budgets. Once the existing keys have been requested and the organization onboarded, building occupants can use their mobile devices for a convenient, modern, and secure access experience.

The proven Seos technology in the existing keys also strengthens security through advanced encryption and authentication. It is third-party certified and compliant with U.S. and international information security and cloud-hosting standards.

Mobile Access Throughout the Building

The HID Mobile Access App allows occupants to use their devices for easy access — throughout the entire building. There are plenty of options to enhance security, from parking and turnstiles to elevators and meeting rooms. HID even provides mobile access to computers, printers, lockers and vending machines. Mobile access helps meet users’ expectations while supporting organizational requirements.

In 2026, the mobile app has been further enhanced with several new features. When the app’s secure location services are enabled, users can access secured areas simply by tapping their device at the next access point, eliminating the need to open the app and ensuring a seamless user experience. The setup process has also been simplified through the Origo Management Portal. With optional Single Sign-On (SSO), users’ credentials are automatically downloaded when they log in to the app. Organizations can now reassign credentials to another user when access needs to be revoked, avoiding the cost of purchasing new credentials. In addition, temporary visitor credentials can be issued instantly for any predefined period, providing greater flexibility in managing guest access.
