EUDEX Conference focuses on civil-military security
The inaugural Euro Defence Expo in Essen will bring defense and civilian security closer together, with a two-day conference focused on total defense, resilience and civil-military cooperation.
The first Euro Defence Expo (EUDEX) will take place at Messe Essen from September 22–25, bringing together more than 350 exhibitors from 19 countries. Alongside the exhibition, the EUDEX Conference by CPM will run on September 22–23. It will address current security policy challenges, with a particular focus on cooperation between military and civilian stakeholders. The conference is organized by CPM Verlag.
EUDEX will run alongside Security Essen, bringing military and civilian security stakeholders into the same exhibition environment.
EUDEX is designed as an international meeting point for defense companies, procurement organizations, the Bundeswehr, government agencies and other security and defense stakeholders. Its debut alongside Security Essen will place the military and civilian security sectors in the same exhibition environment, reflecting the growing overlap between their technologies, operational challenges and solutions.
Civil and military security converge
The EUDEX Conference by CPM will focus on the growing overlap between civilian and military security. Over two days, senior representatives from the Bundeswehr, politics, public administration, industry, healthcare and civil protection will discuss how Germany can strengthen its defense capabilities and wider societal resilience.
The agenda covers civil-military cooperation, military strategy, crisis prevention, healthcare, security preparedness and nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection.
The conference opens on September 22 with a keynote by retired Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, former Inspector General of the German Army. His address, “Rethinking Total Defence,” will examine civil-military cooperation as a prerequisite for national resilience.
Topics range from military strategy and crisis prevention to healthcare, security preparedness and NBC protection.
The first-day program will also look at how civilian and military actors can support each other during emergencies. Panelists include State Secretary Paul Höller of the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Economic Affairs; Lieutenant General Thorsten Poschwatta, Commander of Air Component Command; and Udo Schröder-Hörster of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Resilience, NATO and crisis preparedness
The second day will shift the focus to NATO’s military-strategic development, healthcare provision during crises and cooperation between government and industry on security preparedness.
Speakers include retired Air Force Lieutenant General Jürgen Knappe, former Commander of NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command; Gerd Friedsam, former President of Germany’s Federal Agency for Technical Relief; and Niklas Kull, Head of Development & Testing at Kärcher Futuretech.

Attendance at the conference is free of charge for registered EUDEX visitors. Advance registration is required to visit the trade fair. A ticket for the Security Essen event, which is taking place at the same time, does not grant access to EUDEX.
