Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency has warned travelers against posting boarding pass images online, citing the risk of exposing personal and travel information.
The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has advised travelers not to share photographs of boarding passes on social media unless personal information is completely concealed. The agency issued the warning on August 3 as part of its cybersecurity awareness messaging.
The agency warned that boarding passes can contain personal and travel details that may become accessible when an image is posted publicly. It specifically highlighted printed QR codes, which can provide access to information associated with the passenger and their journey.
NCSA said travelers who want to post images from their trips should ensure that personal information contained on boarding passes is fully hidden before sharing the photographs online.
The warning highlights the cybersecurity implications of information routinely generated during air travel. Boarding passes and other travel documents can contain data that may be valuable for identity-related fraud, social engineering or other forms of misuse if exposed publicly.
The advice reinforces the importance of treating physical and digital travel documents as sensitive information rather than ordinary social media content.
