Kerala to Host Global AI Summit in Kochi, 2024

India’s state of Kerala takes a significant step in the field of AI as the country prepares for hosting the Global AI Summit in Kochi in 2024. This announcement was a strategic initiative of IBM, as discussions were held between Industries Minister P. Rajeeve, Industries Principal Secretary Suman Billa, and IBM India representatives this past Tuesday.

The discussions led to a preliminary agreement in which Kochi was established as IBM’s potential national hub for AI-assisted technology. This development is expected to transform Kochi’s technological scene, as the city is expected to become a worldwide center for AI.

The Global AI Summit will take place in the middle of this year. It will be a platform for showing and discussing innovations in AI. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve expressed his optimism about Kochi having the role of the AI hub for IBM, saying that it would lead to a reverse migration trend as it will attract top technology experts worldwide.

According to an AIM article, Minister Rajeeve stated that Kochi will witness an influx of the best technology experts, placing the city on the global map of AI advancements.

The focus of the proposed AI hub will be on generative AI, a step further than generic AI apps. IBM, as a key player in the global AI field, enables many companies access to AI services, such as Boeing, whose participation in the summit is supported by Minister Rajeeve.

Collaborating for the summit will be the State’s Department of Industry, with key entities such as IT Parks, Kerala Startup Mission, Digital University, and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Additionally, a second stage of expansion at Infopark is in motion, improving facilities for IBM’s AI moves.

The Uttar Pradesh government has revealed intentions to create India’s first AI city in Lucknow, focused on fostering and advancing the AI ecosystem. Led by UP Electronics Corporation Ltd, the project’s primary agency, an expression of interest (EoI) has been released, inviting proposals for designing, developing, and operating this AI city.
