DCO Assembly on New Members and Digital Initiatives Concluded
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) recently concluded its third annual General Assembly in Bahrain, where new member states were announced, including Bangladesh, Qatar, and the Hellenic Republic, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The assembly discussed topics relating to cross-border market growth, data value, and a sustainable digital economy. The member states, representing a population of 800 million and a GDP of $3.5 trillion, highlighted the importance of cooperation in the global digital economy, as stated by the Saudi Press Agency.
The DCO declared its commitment to preventing the digital divide and recognized the potential of digital transformation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. New initiatives, including the DCO GenAI Center of Excellence, Data Embassy, and Online Content Integrity, were announced to promote a sustainable and inclusive digital economy. The assembly included 17 new observers from different sectors, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Cooperation in addressing challenges such as misinformation and digital fragmentation was emphasized. The event confirmed the 2024 Executive Commitee with Saudi Arabia as the chair. The next General Assembly is set to be held in February 2025 in Jordan. The DCO aims to nurture digital prosperity for all by speeding up the process of inclusive growth of the digital economy, bringing together ministries from 16 countries, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
