Abu Dhabi launches central control room for autonomous vehicles
Abu Dhabi has launched a central control room to manage and monitor autonomous vehicle operations across the emirate, strengthening oversight as self-driving transport services continue to expand.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) said the facility uses a centralized supervision system and the Autonomous Vehicle Integration and Testing Operations Management System (AViTOMS). The platform enables real-time tracking of vehicle locations, speeds and routes, while also recording and analyzing trips and generating operational reports.
The system supports coordination with relevant authorities during emergencies and allows the ITC to manage permits and approve operational routes for licensed autonomous vehicle operators.
Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, said the control room represents a key step in developing Abu Dhabi’s regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles as adoption of smart mobility technologies accelerates.
The control room will operate during approved hours and covers autonomous vehicle services provided by licensed operators across the emirate. It is designed to enable rapid monitoring and immediate response to operational or emergency situations in accordance with regulatory procedures.
The ITC said the initiative is part of Abu Dhabi’s move toward an integrated digital services model for smart transportation, with a focus on safety, operational efficiency and regulated deployment of autonomous mobility technologies.
