Dubai RTA Launches AI-Powered Transport Data Lab to Strengthen Traffic Security and Smart Mobility
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a Transport Data Analysis Laboratory to enhance traffic flow, strengthen transport security, and support the emirate’s smart-city strategy.
Based at the Enterprise Command and Control Centre, the laboratory aggregates data from more than 35 transport sources, including public transport, private vehicles, and soft mobility. Using artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, the platform transforms real-time and historical data into predictive insights that allow authorities to anticipate congestion, detect anomalies, and respond proactively to network pressures.
The laboratory also enhances transport security and operational resilience by identifying abnormal movement patterns, recurring incident hotspot,s and potential safety risks. This enables faster intervention and improved coordination during daily operations, major events, and peak travel periods.
More than 150 operational performance indicators are automated, providing greater visibility across the transport network and supporting data-driven decision-making. The system helps evaluate the effectiveness of traffic policies, infrastructure adjustments, and security measures in real time.
By embedding AI into traffic management and command-and-control operations, the initiative reinforces Dubai’s vision of an integrated smart-city ecosystem where mobility, safety, and sustainability are managed through intelligent, connected infrastructure.
