Keenfinity EMS Gains ISO 13485 Certification, Expanding Into Medical Technology

The certification covers the design and production of electronic systems for medical applications and marks a strategic step into one of the world’s fastest-growing regulated industries

Keenfinity EMS has obtained ISO 13485:2016 certification for its electronics manufacturing plant in Ovar, Portugal, in a move that expands the company’s reach into the medical technology sector.

In its press release, Keenfinity said the certification covers the design and manufacturing of electronic systems, including control units, power supply units, and human-machine interfaces, for a broad range of medical devices.

“The Ovar plant is the Center of Excellence within our global production network, driving growth by expanding into highly regulated markets such as medical,”

Ram Dornala, CEO of KEENFINITY EMS.

According to Keenfinity, the certification enables the company to support products used in areas such as diagnostics, patient monitoring, vital-sign measurement, and wearables. The company said the milestone reflects the technical and quality capabilities of its Ovar site and gives it access to a major global growth market shaped by strict regulatory and performance requirements.

Keenfinity also used the announcement to underline the broader role of its Portugal operation within its production network. The company said the Ovar plant serves as a center of excellence and noted that the site expanded its production area in December 2025 to create additional room for R&D and manufacturing.

As reported by Keenfinity, the company now plans to pursue medical technology certification for its Zhuhai site in China as well. That would allow customers to scale production regionally, an important factor for manufacturers seeking more agile and diversified supply chains in regulated sectors.

The development is notable beyond medical technology alone. It signals how electronics manufacturers with roots in industrial, building and communications markets are increasingly moving into higher-value regulated segments, where compliance, lifecycle support and production quality are becoming key competitive differentiators.
