Smart Building Expo 2025: Focus On Green Building, Electrification, and Smart Cities

At Fiera Milano from November 19 to 21, SBE will serve once again as a hub for discussion and reflection on the future of buildings and cities, offering a calendar of strategic events to understand an evolving sector.

Milan, September 30, 2025. Highlighting business opportunities and providing updates and practical solutions to designers, engineers, and installers to navigate the complex phase of energy and digital transition: this is the goal of SMART BUILDING EXPO 2025, the international event organized by Fiera Milano and Pentastudio dedicated to technological innovation and system integration, scheduled from November 19 to 21, 2025, at Fiera Milano.

Alongside an important exhibition offering, which has grown by 20% compared to the previous edition and will feature key players such as ABB, Adeogroup Eelectron, Finder, Gewiss, and Vimar, SBE 2025 also offers a rich program of workshops, training events, and networking opportunities designed to address the sector’s challenges, both in terms of emerging technologies and European regulations governing their adoption.

“SMART BUILDING EXPO has grown edition after edition and today represents a unique moment to converge and develop the skills related to technological integration and the smart evolution of buildings and cities.” – says Luca Baldin, Project Manager of the event.- “The offerings of this edition will be a valuable tool to navigate this period of change, thanks to the innovations of the participating companies, as well as the significant contributions from experts and industry associations, which will allow professionals to discover upcoming scenarios, analyze the tools available, and outline the areas where the drive for innovation is strongest.”

Three Days Dedicated to the Sector’s Major Challenges

Three days, three focuses. From the zero-emission future to electrification, to the role of smart cities, SBE will offer a structured program of thematic days to provide an integrated view of ongoing changes:

  • 19 November: Decarbonization at the Center

The first day of the exhibition will focus on the complex challenge of zero emissions. Two main events are planned. The first is the EPBD4 (Energy Performance Building Directive) Workshop: Towards Implementing Decrees, which will analyze the impact of the new regulation on national strategies and investments in building renovation, estimated in Italy at over €280 billion. The meeting will feature representatives from MASE (Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security), ANCE (Italian National Association of Building Contractors), ANIE Building Area (Building Area of the Italian Federation of Electrical and Electronic Companies,), Adiconsum (Italian Consumers’ Protection Association) and other key stakeholders. The second event, in collaboration with DEERNS Italia, will spotlight Data Centers, key infrastructures for digitalization but increasingly energy-intensive, offering innovative solutions to reduce their environmental footprint, from the use of renewable energy to immersion cooling and the application of artificial intelligence.

  • November 20: Focus on Electrification

Through various scheduled sessions, participants will reflect on the potential and risks of building electrification, a crucial topic for the decarbonization of the building stock. The day will begin with a Real Estate Workshop to discuss how the EPBD4 directive is already redefining property value and investors’ strategies. With the participation of Generali Real Estate, Teicos Group, Ricci SpA, and E-Valutations, among others, the meeting aims to highlight the role of Real Estate in the decarbonization of the building stock, both in terms of new constructions and the conversion of existing buildings.

This will be followed by a session organized by Rinnovabili.it together with Prosiel, addressing the challenges and opportunities of progressively replacing gas systems with heat pumps, photovoltaics, and electrical systems. Finally, a vertical deep dive will focus on the hospitality sector, one of the areas that can benefit most from system upgrades. The Hotellerie 4.0 Workshop will show how automation, air quality, and immersive solutions can reshape the tourist experience.

  • November 21: From Smart Buildings to Smart Cities

On November 21, the focus will shift from individual buildings to the urban fabric with the workshop From Building to City: Buildings and Cities Facing the Twin Transition, featuring experts from the Smart Buildings Alliance and numerous industry specialists. The session will focus on the role of smart buildings as active nodes in smart cities, thanks to technologies such as energy grids, cloud and edge computing, and the impacts of the new UNI 11973-2025 standard, set to guide the intelligent transformation of Italian cities.

SBE 2025 also reconfirms its commitment to professional training. The event will once again host the National Smart Installer Meeting, dedicated to the professional development of installers, which this year will feature as special guest the brand-new European project LIFE-SKEMA, led by ENAIP. Through this project, the European Union aims to upskill technical personnel to meet the new challenges of the twin transition (digital and energy) of the building stock.

The Innovation Squares

The “Innovation Squares” return to SBE, animating the exhibition area with moments of discussion and talks with sector experts on topics ranging from building technological architecture to system integration, with a particular focus on the “energy” world.

Four squares in 2025: From Building to City Square by the Smart Buildings Alliance (SBA); Building Automation Square by AIBACS; Integration Square by KNX ITALIA; and Rinnovabili District Square by Rinnovabili.it.

Rinnovabili District: A Hub for Discussion and Innovation

A major highlight of Smart Building Expo will be the Rinnovabili District, a dynamic space curated by the media company Rinnovabili, hosting debates, meetings, and an immersive exhibition area dedicated to emerging technologies. The three days of the event will focus on vertical insights into various topics.

On November 19, the focus will be on Renewable Energy and Emerging Models, highlighting distributed production, prosumers, energy efficiency, and data center sustainability.

On November 20, the session will address Renewable Energy Communities and the EPBD Directive, with insights on scalability, self-consumption, and the role of Energy Management Experts (EGE).

Finally, on November 21, the last day of the event, Emerging Technologies and Smart Cities will take center stage, with reflections on electric mobility, urban hydrogen, and artificial intelligence to optimize consumption.

Focus On Lighting Systems

Thanks to the collaboration with ASSIL, the Italian association focused on lighting systems, Smart Building Expo will also feature an area dedicated to this strategic topic from an energy efficiency perspective.

Value Synergies: Miba 2025

The focus on alternative energies and sustainable cities offered by Smart Building Expo aligns fully with MIBA – Milan International Building Alliance, Fiera Milano’s format on sustainable, efficient, and safe buildings. SBE reaffirms its contemporaneity with MADE Expo, Italy’s leading international construction and building event; SICUREZZA, one of Europe’s main events dedicated to security & fire; and GEE – Global Elevator Exhibition, focused on vertical and horizontal mobility. A strategic synergy between complementary markets, called to collaborate in shaping the future of buildings and cities.

SMART BUILDING EXPO will take place from November 19 to 21, 2025, at Fiera Milano.
