Optex launches solar-friendly vehicle sensor

Optex has launched the OVS-01SG, a low-power vehicle detection sensor designed for solar-powered gates, barriers and vehicle access control points.
According to Optex, the OVS-01SG Solar-Friendly Virtual Loop Vehicle Detection Sensor is intended for applications including residential driveway gates, commercial entrances, vehicle access control points and other outdoor gate installations. Its low current draw is designed to reduce demand on solar-powered gate systems while maintaining reliable vehicle presence detection.
Using FMCW microwave technology, the sensor can detect both approaching and stationary vehicles at the gate. It offers three power consumption modes, allowing installers to balance response time and energy efficiency according to site requirements. Typical detection times range from 3.2 seconds in low-power mode to 0.8 seconds in high-power mode.
The OVS-01SG provides an adjustable sensing distance of up to 18 feet, selectable 45° or 90° detection angles and 60° of total horizontal adjustment. Sensitivity and detectable vehicle speed can also be configured to suit different gate layouts and traffic conditions.
Designed for indoor and outdoor use, the unit carries an IP65 rating for dust and water protection. It also includes interference prevention, presence detection timer settings and an area check function intended to simplify installation and support stable detection.
Optex said the sensor can be configured for either gate activation or vehicle protection applications, depending on installation requirements.
